The Epic Seven: The Best Reddit Communities for the 7th Generation
The Best Reddit Communities for the 7th Generation
A few years ago, if you were on Reddit in any capacity, there was a 99% chance you were on /r/ subreddits. It was where you go when you wanted to spend an hour or a day watching and getting other people riled up over a controversy, finding new entertainment on the most extreme of subjects, or just having a good time. These days, the /r/ subreddits that once ran the site have faded away, so much so that Reddit was forced to announce the closing of /r/bestof back in April. In fact, as of today there are only a mere 2,600 active subreddits left on the site.
Now that the site has evolved into what it is today, I decided to take a look at the subreddit landscape of the site to see what you should spend your time looking at next.

“2016 was probably the most insane year I’ve had so far. I’ve had good friends get engaged, friends get married, friends get diagnosed with cancer, my brother got into this NCAA career, and that’s just scratching the surface of the craziness.”

“I play every major AAA game. I play indie games like Stardew Valley and got really into Undertale this year. When I need a break from games, I read, watch TV or movies, or play some card games. I try to keep myself very well rounded.

Cars and Automobiles
The great nerd love story of the millennium.
On Reddit, this early 90s film about two inept, self-destructive car lovers is the most popular film on the site. The film has received a combined 6,174,626 upvotes over the past two years, and a lot of people seem to find themselves in the heartfelt tale of Steve-O and Neal McDonough’s unlikely friendship.
While it’s certainly easy to love this classic comedy about friendship, it’s also a heck of a lot of fun to guess the movie’s ending. Did we all learn a valuable life lesson here? Or were we slightly relieved when Steve finally got to go home?
Also on this week’s episode, we round up the 7 best subreddits for exploring the intricate and varied world of cars.
Ortiz has also come to the conclusion that the service is just flat out broken.
Conclusion
It’s been a tough year for Reddit. It lost its highly-rated CEO, Alexis Ohanian, and its founder, Steve Huffman, promised to work more closely with the users of Reddit after losing several major advertising campaigns.
Even so, Reddit has managed to stay open and continue to operate despite losing two of the most important members of the community.
It’s time to turn the page and get ready for a new year on Reddit.
This is the sixth part of our “State of the Reddit” series. This article is part of our “Summer of Service” volunteerism month in which we highlight and explain the six areas we work on, which also includes cybersecurity, machine learning and data infrastructure.
